Rushaga, Uganda – On Monday, Gorilla Leisure Lodge hosted the Speaker of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, Rt. Hon. Tomio Okamura, during his visit to south-western Uganda to trek mountain gorillas in the Rushaga sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Okamura was later joined by Uganda’s Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, as the two visited the gorilla habitat, where Okamura named a newborn mountain gorilla “Tomas”– a name he described as a symbol of friendship between Uganda and the Czech Republic.
The visit also brought renewed attention to Uganda’s gorilla tourism and the growing appeal of the Rushaga sector as a destination for both international and domestic visitors.

For Gorilla Leisure Lodge, hosting the Czech Speaker was a notable moment. His stay at the lodge, followed by the visit from Uganda’s Deputy Speaker, reflects the growing significance of Rushaga as a tourism destination and the role the sector continues to play in bringing prominent visitors into the region.

The visit also presents an encouraging message for domestic tourism. With senior Ugandan leaders themselves taking time to experience the country’s tourism attractions, there is an opportunity to encourage more Ugandans including government officials, professionals and other influential groups, to explore destinations within their own country.

Speaking during the gorilla experience, Tayebwa encouraged Ugandans to visit and appreciate Uganda’s natural attractions, noting that gorilla trekking continues to offer something new even for those who have experienced it before.

For Gorilla Leisure Lodge, the occasion was more than simply hosting distinguished guests. It was a moment to witness Uganda’s tourism story unfolding in Rushaga and to be part of a visit that brought together Uganda, the Czech Republic and the mountain gorillas of Bwindi.
